ks bb album cover and cd

I've had an amazing time these past 2 years touring the country with my Adorable Husband/bassist/road sherpa Bryan Beller. Everywhere we go people ask if we have an album of us together as a duo, just like what they're hearing live. The answer has always been “no”…until now. We were lucky enough to capture some high quality audio from a show in Orlando last December….and smart enough to release it as a live album – our first together! (Everybody say “awwww…..”)

What’s on it? Material from all 3 of my studio albums, a solo version of a bass piece on Bryan’s first record, plus a few covers we’ve dug into and made our own - all wrapped up with some silly stage banter to make you feel like you were there. One more time with feeling, everybody: “aww….” Here's a song list for you:

I Ain’t Never – (KS – Raise My Voice)
Make Up Your Mind – (KS – Raise My Voice)
Miss You Bad Tonight – (KS – Love In A Dangerous World)
You Gonna Regret Losing Me – (KS – Raise My Voice)
I Will Raise My Voice – (KS – Raise My Voice)
Hootchie Mama – (KS – Raise My Voice)
Wanderin’ Star – (KS – Wanderin’ Star)
Shouldn’t We Be In Love – (KS – Love In A Dangerous World)
Hurtin’ - (KS – Raise My Voice)
Digging In the Dirt Peter Gabriel song from early 90's we both always liked (Peter's version)
Sugar Man – (KS – Love In A Dangerous World)
Backwoods – (BB – View)
Ain’t No Sunshine Bill Withers - classic, simple brilliance (Bill's version)
I Can’t Stand the Rain Ann Peebles - one of my all-time faves (Ann's version)

As for the title - no we didn't play THAT White House. But the one we did play, the Timucua White House in Orlando, FL, is a special place all its own. The liner notes tell the full story, but I'll offer many thanks here to Benoit Glazer who owns/lives at the "White House" and runs the Timucua Arts Foundation for letting us play his amazing space AND recording it for us!

Raise My Voice album cover

About the album...

Raise My Voice is an album of 12 songs - only one of which I didn't write. It's soulful and deep and I think it's better than the last one. (I know, we always think that). Songs range from anthemic ("I Will Raise My Voice") to smoldering sass ("Say My Name" "You Gonna Regret Losing Me") to sweet smoothness ("It's So Good") to stank groove ("I Ain't Never") There's even one called "Hootchie Mama" for Pete's sake. (You can listen to samples on the audio player at the bottom of the screen - tracks 2-4 are from this album.) If I were cooler I'd have more snippets for you to hear - I don't. But just look at who's on this thing:

Bass:
Bob Babbitt (one of Motown's Funk Brothers)
Steve Brantley (James Brown, Ronnie Milsap, Dave Loggins)

Drums/percussion:
Ed Greene (Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Hall & Oates, Donna Summer)
Jonathan Dees (Jimmy Hall, Ronnie Milsap)
Tom Roady (Etta James, Michael McDonald, James Taylor, Aretha Franklin)

Keys:
Clayton Ivey (Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, BB King, Temptations, Supremes)
Shane Keister (Elvis Presley, Billy Joel, Amy Grant)
Andy McMahon (Neil Young, Tracy Nelson)

Guitar:
Reggie Young (Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield, Dobie Gray)
Bruce Dees (James Brown, Ronnie Milsap, Dave Loggins, Ray Charles)

Lauren Ellis (Rita Coolidge, Nell Carter)
Rick Musallam (Mike Keneally Band, Ben Taylor)

Love In A Dangerous World - 2006 CD

LIDW album cover

My 2006 Offrow Records release Love In A Dangerous World was produced by Bruce Dees (James Brown, Ronnie Milsap) and features several Motown and Muscle Shoals R&B veterans. Grammy-award-winning songwriter Mike Reid took one listen and exclaimed, “Kira – you sound like a neat glass of single malt in a world of Michelob Ultra.” (That's my favorite comment ever, by the way. Except for that time a drummer told me I didn't play piano like a girl. But that's another story...)

Wanderin' Star - 2003 CD

Wanderin' Star album cover

This is my first CD, released in 2003. (Dear God, it's a limerick! Somebody stop me...) It's pretty different from my new stuff - much jazzier - but I'm still proud of it. It sorta tells the tale of where I'd been up until that point.
